Terms and Conditions

Our mission is to make professional counselling straightforwardly available to the East Lothian community and to maintain an actively engaged network of counselling practitioners who contribute to the community of members.  In order to join and remain a member of The East Lothian Counselling Network (ELCN), you must meet the following requirements:

• Be resident and/or practising in East Lothian.
• Be a member of a Professional body recognised by the ELCN (see below).
• Adhere to your Professional Body’s Ethical Framework.
• Have adequate insurance in place for your practice.
• Be willing to take part in ELCN meetings. New members must attend their first meeting within six months of joining. If this doesn’t take place, your membership will come to an end.
• Members are expected to attend three meetings each year and must attend an absolute minimum of one meeting per year.
• Take an active part in contributing to and promoting the ELCN amongst your community as appropriate.

The fee for new members to join the ELCN is currently £120.    Included in the membership fee is advertising your profile on our website and regular CPD and Business focussed sessions, throughout the year in addition to our Annual General Meeting.  We also facilitate regular, informal social gatherings for counsellors to get to know one another.

Payment for Membership

The fee for membership is payable either in full or over twelve monthly instalments.  If you opt to pay by instalments and cancel your membership within the year, the balance of the membership fee must be paid within ten working days of cancelling your membership.

Recognised Professional Bodies

In order to be a member of the East Lothian Counselling Network, you must be registered and accountable to one of the following Professional bodies:

• British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
• Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA)
• United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
• British Psychoanalytic Council
• UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA).
• The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)
• Chartered Counselling Psychologist/Chartered Psychologist (with counselling training)
• Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)
• UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (UKAHPP)
• Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP)

Changes to Membership Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions were last updated on 06/09/2024 (“Revision Date“). If you were a Member before the Revision Date, it replaces the existing Membership Terms and Conditions. The East Lothian Counselling Network reserves the right to change this policy at any time by notifying members of the existence of new Membership Terms and Conditions.
