Valerie Smith I work with adults over the age of 18 and enjoy working on a wide range of issues including the specialist areas listed below. I offer a confidential, warm and non-judgmental counselling experience and my commitment is to understanding you and the experiences which are troubling you. Finding meaning together in emotional difficulty can enable understanding, acceptance and change.

I practice locally from a dedicated counselling room at Cockenzie Business Centre and both privately and for the charitable sector in Edinburgh.

In addition to face-to-face, I also counsel via the telephone. I have a particular interest in counselling people who live in remote areas where access to counselling is limited. Telephone counselling is a great option too for those with caring responsibilities, a disability or suffering illness.

During these difficult times, I also offer online webcam-based counselling using technologies such as Zoom or VSee. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about working in this way or if you would like to make an appointment for an initial session.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked for ten years as a change manager, coaching individuals and teams through the uncertainties of change in the workplace. This provided me with a deep insight into the pressures which arise in the corporate environment in particular.

I am participating in the Low Fee Coronavirus Counselling Service.
